The girls, my mom, and I took a little trip to Santa Fe. Well, I suppose a few hours doesn't really constitute a vacation, but I think Santa fe-cation sounds so cute, so I borrowed it from the Tourism Website. We did consider going for an overnight trip, but were just too busy. Also, we really wanted to take the train up there, but it didn't fit into Tessa's sleep schedule. And a sleepy Tessa does not make a fun travel companion.

We did walk around the Plaza, take some pictures of interesting buildings, and a few of us in front of what may have been a cherry blossom tree.

These pictures are from a little park next the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. Unfortunately, the church was being restored and was covered in scaffolding, so we didn't take any pictures of it. But the park was nice and the girls really enjoyed this statue. Also, it was open so we were able to see inside, although photos were not allowed inside.

We walked past a store that sold metal sculptures and liked these two especially. The bears have little bumblebees on their noses, which was really cute.

A friend recommended The Shed to us for lunch. It was a very fun looking place, and the food was tasty as well. We should have taken more photos there, because the courtyard was sweet and there was a small blue door next to this larger door to go into the restaurant. However, hungry children were more on my mind at the time!

We also went to the Loretto Chapel. It is famous for its staircase, which was supposedly built without nails, in a short period of time, by a carpenter that traveled into the area and used wood not native to New Mexico. They say it is a miracle, or at least an engineering masterpiece. My girls just thought it would be great fun to climb up and down! But of course, no touching.

Overall, it was a fun little jaunt into Santa Fe and I do hope to go there again. On the way home, we stopped off at the Children's Museum of Santa Fe, looking for a child friendly bathroom. It looked like a very fun place and we will definitely go back there! This story would be so nice, if it ended there. Unfortunately, we still had an hour ride home, a girl that gets carsick easily, and very bad traffic. It wasn't such a pretty ending after all.

Sophia chose her birthday dinner and it wasn't a surprise to anyone that sushi was her pick. She wore her new Fancy Nancy crown and earrings from her friend Sydney and looked beautiful. She ordered all of her favorite things, including tamago (egg), maguro (tuna), sake nigiri zushi (salmon sushi), ikura (salmon eggs), edamame (soybeans), and several fancy rolls including one with lobster in it, and a dragon roll because it looks so cool (though the eel on top was not one of her favorites).

The balloon tiara...

Even Sophia took one of Tutu and Mommy.
This one is awful of each of the girls, but the background is so pretty!
A prickly porcupine.
They really did have fun at the zoo, just not posing for this picture.
Check out what Sophia uses to hold on!
