Corrales Harvest Festival

Corrales is a town just North of Albuquerque, with a lot of farms and an annual harvest festival- complete with hay rides, roasted corn, bbq, face painting, pony rides, a corn maze, and a petting zoo.

Tessa was happy with everything, until she was too sleepy to smile anymore.

They also had a kiddie area filled with inflatable slides and jumpers...which made for a difficult morning as Mommy thought it was best to do the other things and save that part for the end of the day and Sophia disagreed. So then she was a grumpy girl.

The face painting helped to cheer her up. She wanted a swan on one cheek and a dolphin on the other. She even directed the amazingly nice woman on exactly which colors to use for each part of the painting. She's a a girl who knows what she wants!

Then, the pony rides brightened everyone's day. These rides were even better than at the fair because Sophia liked being able to ride around, not just in a circle, Tessa liked that she got a turn sitting on a pony, and Chuckolate and I were happy about them being free rides!
The petting zoo was not-so-impressive, as you were not allowed to touch the animals. Apparently they were grumpy because they weren't allowed to jump that morning either.

But there was a small pool of uncooked corn kernals next to the petting zoo, which provided enough entertainment for both sisters to make up for it. They loved "swimming" through the corn. In fact, when we changed Tessa's diaper later, we found some corn kernals that had snuck their way in!

There was also a puppet show and they allowed the kids to all go up and take a turn cranking the music and making the puppets dance on a board. Then the puppeteer showed them how the marionettes could move and dance around. Finally, there was a little show about a cricket who is in love with Miss Cockroach and wants to win a singing contest. I thought it might be too old fashioned for the kids, who are all used to much more high tech entertainment, but they all seemed to enjoy it regardless.

Roasted corn and fresh squeezed lemonade were two favorite treats of the day. Tessa might have bitten anyone that got between her and that ear of corn!

Finally...the jumping! At $3 per jumper, I sure hope it was very fun! Tessa spent her time crawling up the slide inside this jumper and then sliding down on her belly. I couldn't fit inside to show her how to go up the steps and thought I might have to leave her there when the guy said it was time to get her out because I was not going in that tiny little opening...but she finally agreed to come see me when I coaxed her with lemonade.

Sophia was thrilled to get to jump and slide to her heart's content. Now why didn't we just listen to her and jump first?

That looks so fun! We have got to start getting out and finding fun stuff like that here. Poor Sophia... I mean poor Mommy and Daddy. They just don't know how good they've got it, do they? :0)
