First, her class choose her to be in the school council. Each child in the class was allowed to select one boy and one girl from the class. Each girl chose themself and one boy and each boy chose themself and Sophia! It seems like a slightly flawed system to me, with every student voting for him or herself, but she was selected and very pleased about it. Her name will be on the school website, she wears a School Council pin on her jumper, and now she will be one of the students handing out certificates at assembly. Also, they have student council meetings and she will be able to assist the headteacher with some important decisions about the school. Coming up first, what color chairs to purchase for the dining hall?
Her second reason for excitement this month is that the headteacher asked students to submit a poem using one of the school's 4 important characteristics to start the poem. The school motto is BEAR; Belong, Enjoy, Aim high, and Respect others. The Headteacher wanted acrostic poems (each word of the poem starts with one letter of the original word) using one of those four words as the theme. She chose Sophia's poem out of all the poems submitted to her. That means that her poem was in the school newsletter and now she is the Poet Laureate for her school. I went to the assembly to hear the announcement and the headteacher gave Sophia a medal and explained that if the school needs a poem for any reason, she will call on Sophia to help out. She asked if Sophia could do that and Sophia wrinkled up her face, tugged on her bangs and said, "I dunno." I had to stifle a giggle. After a quick talk with me afterwards, Sophia now knows that if her headteacher asks her to do something, the correct answer is, "Yes, ma'am!"
Sophia's Poem

Everyone together
Lovely Laureate
